Mathematics · Physics · Visualization

Hi, I’m Foster Teng(滕雲飛).
I work on mathematical ideas and make them visible.

I am a Math and Physics student at the University of Toronto, currently in the Mathematics and Physics Specialist program. My interests lie in mathematical physics, geometry, and building clear visual representations of abstract structures.

About

Short, specific, and human.

What I work on

My academic work focuses on the interaction between geometry, analysis, and physics. I am particularly interested in variational principles, geometric structures, and how abstract objects can be represented in concrete and visual ways.

  • Mathematical physics and variational methods
  • Hyperbolic geometry and group actions
  • Visualization of algebraic structures using MATLAB

How I think

I value clarity, correctness, and structure. Whether I am writing mathematics, building visualizations, or designing interfaces, I aim to make ideas precise and easy to follow.

What I’m looking for

I’m interested in research, teaching, and software projects where correctness and clarity matter. I especially enjoy collaborating and writing things that others can actually use.

Projects

Pick 3–6. Make each one easy to scan.

The Least Action Principle for the Einstein Field Equation

General Relativity

A rigorous derivation of the Einstein field equations using variational calculus. This project includes detailed proofs of the Palatini identity, Jacobi’s formula, and careful treatment of boundary terms.

Visualization of Algebraic Structures

MATLAB

Visualization of finite cyclic groups and their products using MATLAB. This project explores subgroup structures, Cayley tables, and geometric patterns arising from group operations.

Hyperbolic Geometry and Busemann Cocycles

Geometry

A study of hyperbolic geometry on the upper half plane, including horocycles, Busemann cocycles, and the action of Fuchsian groups, developed through a supervised reading course.
